A castle’s best defenses are its position, shape, design, and a very large moat. Its position gives a good advantage because you can build a castle on a cliff with water around it. Another way to give an advantage is to make a hill out of the dirt that is dug from the moat. Its shape can be an advantage when you put four round towers on the corners of the castle. This is an advantage because it prevents blind spots. The design can be an advantage because you can have chutes which hot oil, other liquids, arrows, and rocks can be dropped from. A moat is a ditch that runs around the castle and is filled with water and sometimes alligators. It protects the castle because it is hard for attackers to cross the moat to the castle. These are some important things that protected castles from invasion.
